Pre & Post Natal Care
Pregnancy is a time whereby the body is undergoing many physiological and biomechanical changes, which sadly can result in pain, weakness and poor body movement.
Some of the common conditions our physiotherapists can provide treatment for during pregnancy or directly after delivery include:
- Lower back and neck pain
- Sciatica
- Pelvic girdle pain or sacro-iliac joint dysfunction
- Abdominal muscle weakness or splitting of the abdominal muscles (abdominal rectus diastasis)
- Mastitis and other breast conditions
- Carpal tunnel
- Incontinence and prolapse.
There is an array of techniques which can be useful to reduce the severity of these painful conditions, as well as some wonderful home management strategies to enable you to function at your best. Our physiotherapists can answer any questions you may have in regards to your physical health during your pregnancy, and offer a range of expertise and advise on how best to recover from these conditions.
Our Women’s Health physiotherapists have been trained to properly fit you with specialised SRC pregnancy shorts. These shorts are specially made of light weight compression fabric which increases pelvic and back support and reduces pregnancy related discomfort.
Did you know about EPI-NO for birth preparation and recovery, which has been shown to significantly reduce the risk and severity of tears with vaginal delivery? Ask our physiotherapists for more information about this new device.
